Review of Sanctum (2011) by Olivier B — 08 Aug 2012
A lot of "Sanctum" wouldn't exist if there weren't a movie to be made, and from our journey's start to its end in this 3D grab bag I couldn't get this thought to leave my head.
James Cameron, coming just as producer for all his technical whatzits and doohickeys, has if nothing else proved a master at cinema escapism. "Sanctum's" blame really goes to director Alister Grierson and writers John Garvin and Andrew Wight, who for the life of their work can't get "Sanctum" to stick on a consistent applause-meter level to keep the audience from catching a few z's waiting for a lick of suspense.
It's a B-grade thriller without the thrills, but keeping intact the two-dimensional and flat, unlikeable characters straight from shooting a SyFy TV movie. But hey, that watery backdrop looks paradise enough.
