A good, summer disaster movie. If you don't live in an earthquake zone, this might seem too far fetched. Yes, the movie takes a lot of liberties with science, but it's an action/disaster movie, get over it.
We have trapped people to be rescued, scientists "studying" earthquakes, all sorts of impossible feats of daring do. It's the "Poseidon Adventure" or the "Burning Inferno" all over again.
