Review of San Andreas (2015) by Stephen C — 08 Mar 2016
Despite the fact I watched this wanting to hate everything it stood for I actually ended up enjoying Dwayne Johnsons big disaster movie as it kind of reminded me of those cracking disaster films of the 70s.
Johnson plays rescue pilot Gaines who is called upon to rescue his family when the big one hits the San Andreas Fault casing massive Earthquakes.
What follows is pretty much a by the numbers disaster film with obvious characters and some truly amazing special effects.
Despite the fact that the script could have fallen off any Hollywood production line Johnson is enough of a likable presence to keep the film flying in the face of some of its more stupid moments.
I think the main reason films like this polarise audiences is the fact Michael Bay has cornered the market in stupid action movies with no redeeming features .
This film has none of that Bay crassness and is all the better for it.
