Review of Samurai Cop (1991) by Kevin M — 23 Aug 2007
This unbelievably bad Z-grade knockoff of "Lethal Weapon" has been unearthed thanks to the miracle of DVD, and digitally restored for posterity. The main character, "Samurai Joe", and his enormous mullet, sleeps with every female he comes across and puts his mugging black partner in a very slight sort of jeopardy.
Action scenes are horribly staged, the director literally cuts to a sex scene in the MIDDLE of a gunfight without ending it on one memorable occasion. Robert Z'Dar kills people with his enormous jaw and plays the least convincing Asian since Mickey Rooney.
At the end, he and Joe have an epic duel; it's only the second time the hero has even touched a katana (it means "Japanese Sword" as Joe enlightens us in a very expert-like way). Contains awful lines too priceless to spoil here, especially Joe's heroic monologue delivered in a chintzy seafood joint with the gayest Maitre D' ever.
See this and please be as intoxicated as possible. Try having a drink every time there is an unconvincing special effect. You'll be on the floor in no time.
