Review of Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf (2009) by Trent R — 03 Aug 2010
Somebody likes Zatoichi, Kozure Okami and Leone, and his initials are K.M. I'd like to say that I liked this, because it's clear that a lot of effort went into it and there is some pretty decent choreography and martial arts. The end dedication to Kihachi Okamoto also did not hurt. But liking good movies does not equal making them.
This would make a decent late night movie for drunk festivalgoing genre fans, as the endless homage, gratuitous voiceovers, and faux retro stylings have a certain appeal. But I found it disappointingly poor in terms of story, acting and pace - despite liking pretty much all of the films it references. All the same, I'd hope that this finds niche success and to see more and better work in the future.
