Forget your boring & cliched New Moons & Twilights...this is hands down the greatest love story of the year (& also my fave Australian film of 2009) What this impressive film does so well is tell it's heartbreaking story through gorgeous cinematography & with the use of minimal dialogue.

Reminiscent of the work of great South Korean film maker Kim Ki-Duk, director Warwick Thornton lets the characters & surroundings talk to the audience through their actions & it works sublimely.

This style of storytelling could only be possible if the acting pedigree was nothing short of top notch & both our leads Rowan McNamara & Marissa Gibson make remarkable debuts in this feature.

The charismatic McNamara has a goofy charm about him thats hugely infectious & hard not to be impressed by while the lovely Gibsons tough yet tender display rings true to life. The chemistry between the two is undeniable from the very first scene that they share together.

Yes it's true, the first half of the film is absolutely amazing so the final half somewhat falters. But as a whole it's nothing short of a spellbinding love story told through gorgeous camera work & astonishing performances.

If you're looking for a love story with a difference, there is no better choice this year. Unless overly pale, sparkling vampires & buffed up werewolves that have never heard of a t-shirt before floats your boat.
