Review of Samsara (2011) by Tom H — 23 Feb 2013
I could not find anything redeeming about this flick. Cheap Californian pseudo-Buddhism is used as an excuse to bring an incoherent string of pretty pictures to the screen. Sometimes the incoherence is interrupted by a series of images that seems to be thematically related, but it doesn't take long for it to descend back into the dark hole of non sequiturs.
This film lacks the commitment, urgency and message that similar films like Qatsi-Trilogy had. And, compared to Philip Glass's soundtrack, Samsara's music is inexcusable. It's utterly surprising that somebody who was involved in the Qatsi-Trilogy could produce esoteric drivel such as this.
I presume "Baraka" is of the same ilk. Will not bother to watch it. One star for the pretty pictures.
