Review of Samsara (2011) by Art S — 03 Feb 2014
There is no denying that Samasara is a visual and emotional pleasure to watch. Each visual immersing you deeply and whole heartedly into a world that the common person wouldnt have neccessarily seen before.
Real locations and expert photography from Ron Fricke make this such a breath taking experience that its hard to believe what your witnessing is not only real life but with no CGI advancements at all.
The music goes note perfectly, with every segment being brought to life with a very well crafted and bombastic score and this is great, its just... Well its just too long! With literally no dialogue and just a constant view of gorgeous scenarios the jaw dropping effect starts to wear off around the 1 hour and 10 mark.
This really bugged me because some of the most prominent visuals and issues are dealt with in the final half hour meaning that by the time you get to them your slightly underwhelmed and bored. However visually and thematically every sequence delivers.
If this had been a tighter edited and crafted piece we would have had an instant classic. As it stands its just one gloriously long, visual orgasm, which however enjoyable lasts far too long.
