Review of Same Kind of Different as Me (2017) by Larry N Lisa B — 17 Oct 2017
Not all good books translate into good movies. Sadly, this is the case with Same Kind Of Difficult As Me. It has its heart in the right place, the true story is inspiring, and it would have made a nice one-hour made for TV movie.
Instead, it's stretched into a full-length film thanks to frequent long dramatic pauses occasionally punctuated by dialogue. The film would really have benefited from further editing. When the actors do speak, it is often so softly that you can hardly understand.
Another problem: the beginning and end of the film has the main character, Ron Hall, staying at some guy's house for some unclear reason which is probably explained in the book but moviegoers will be left scratching their heads over.
Oh, and there's a fellow in the film who we are led to believe dies (which has zero bearing on the story), but then seems to miraculously show up again near the film's end. And when it's all over, there's no real climax.
Bottom line, Same Kind Of Different As Me is best-suited for a church congregation or homeless shelter benefit.
