Review of Same Kind of Different as Me (2017) by Scott A — 20 Oct 2017
Same Kind of Different As Me artfully speaks to the soul and touches the heart. A top rated cast brings to life a story of love renewed against a background of bigotry and homelessness.
Although it's impossible to mirror all the details of the million seller book on which it was based, the film's director skillfully combines narratives and flashbacks to weave a tale of redemption and hope. As someone who works with the homeless I was encouraged to see the movie take the time to explore that ever-growing community, hopefully starting a conversation about who really are the homeless and how they can be helped. The casting is spot on. There is one particular wordless scene that should garner an Academy nod for both actors.
Bring a big popcorn, an open mind, and plenty of tissues and spend two hours being inspired to make a difference.
