Review of Same Kind of Different as Me (2017) by Monte O — 22 Oct 2017
I?m not sure which planet the ?professional? reviewers live on, but a 20 percent score by them for this movie is ridiculous.
Perhaps their values don?t reflect those of the viewing public. Perhaps they are too cynical. Maybe it?s a matter of ego. Whatever it is, Ian here to report that we plebeians are ignoring them and watching this and similar movies anyway, and doing so in great numbers.
This movie was artfully crafted, well acted and nicely directed and edited. It follows the main protagonist from arrogance to humility. He learns something his wife, upon whom he committed adultery, knew from the beginning: that life is only good when you build meaningful relationships.
They both learn powerful lessons from a homeless black man, who is seething with anger towards what he feels is a cold diabolical world. It takes time for all of them to learn that those who have been wounded emotionally can heel if you take time to drop your preconceptions and perhaps listen a little more to those who you may first think are not capable of great wisdom, kindness and joy.
I wholeheartedly give this wonderful film an enthusiastic thumbs up.
