Review of Samaritan (2022) by Umaumai — 29 Aug 2022
There is a lot to like here. The story and setting is held up by some solid acting from Javon Walton, the kid and real heart of this movie. I'd also say that this is a perfect role for Stallone. The FX, production and people playing the villains don't always hold up, but with the moral at the core of the movie I'd say it's all serviceable.
There are a lot troupes, but the superpowers on display, and their drawbacks, are kind of unique and cool. I'm not sure at this point if I'm just really great at figuring out what movies are going to throw at me or if it's all telegraphed, but I saw all of the twists coming five minutes into the movie.
At first I wasn't sure if it made a difference in the movie, but the more I think about it I holds the morals on display in a different light so I kind of like what they chose to do. Other than some swearing and one or two major acts of violence, I think that this is actually a super hero movie that is definitely okay for the younger kids.
It is a bleak world that they depict, but I think it's worth checking out.
