Review of Salvador (1986) by Mike K — 12 Jul 2009
A very "Oliver Stone" film, in that it's packed with passion, fire, and anger. This is also Stone's passion harnessed in the most effective way: guerrilla-style and dirty as fuck, featuring James Woods in one of his most accomplished roles I've seen as a self-serving, but ultimately kindhearted photojournalist who ends up in the midst of a brutal civil war.
It's interesting seeing his morality and loyalties shift as situations get more dire and he faces more brutality and death. Like I've already said, this is the kind of movie Oliver Stone was born to make, and it's a shame there aren't too many more of them around.
