Review of Salvador (1986) by Jeff L — 20 Aug 2005
Midnight Express (Screenwriter) - When I first saw this movie I never really understood the content. I think I watched it for the brief nudity. Much Later, watching it again, I now know not to smuggle drugs in a foreign country. Overall a decent movie but has moments of excess.
Conan the Barbarian (Screenwriter) - One of the best fantasy movies of my youth. How can you not like swords, women, Conan and Crom?
Scarface (Screenwriter) - A movie that has made its mark in time. But memoriable scenes and movie line quotes doesn't make a movie great. I did enjoy it but the movie seems excessive and over the top. Possible a trend here?
Salavador (Director) - Moments that are shocking and disturbing but I found the pacing of the movie a little slow in parts.
Platoon (Director/Screenwriter) - How much of the dark side of the Vietnam war can one put into a 3 hour movie? If your Stone all of it. Now I admit that I was moved by this film when I first saw it but time and education has a way of sobering us. Its a good film but I think I prefer my Vietnam war flicks more like "Hamburger Hill".
