Review of Salute (2008) by Austin D — 31 Aug 2008
A documentary called "Salute" was the best part of the Rhode Island Film Festival. It chronicled the notorious 1968 Mexico City Olympics, famous for the black power salute by the 200m race winners US team members Tommie Smith and John Carlos.
What the film focuses on however, is the long forgotten third place winner, Austrailian Peter Norman, who wore a pro civil rights pin in support of the men. It's a fascinating look at the event and the effects it had on the olympic community and the world watching back at home.
