Review of Saludos Amigos (1942) by Nat G — 15 Aug 2008
After Bambi Disney had problems as World War 2 had started and they had lost their European market. Saludos Amigos was commissioned by the US government as part of the Good Neighbour Policy. So Disney took a trip to South America visiting different countries. Saludos Amigos tells 4 different stories all relating to South America, one about Lake Titicaca, another about mail trips across the Andes, another about El Gaucho (Cowboys) and the last about the Music and Dance of Brazil. The film features Donald Duck and Goofy, and is only 40 minutes long.
It's not that bad a film, it's very informative and very interesting, but it is not really a Disney classic. But you have to remember that Disney where going through hard times just like the rest of the world, to follow would be a few more films which are less well known, things don't pick up until Cinderella comes along.
