Review of Salome's Last Dance (1988) by Robert C — 09 Jul 2012
Director Ken Russell took Oscar Wilde's play, which is already melodramatic, and painted it with a big ol' brush of camp. For the first half hour I was prepared to hate it, but as it went on it grew on me, and some scenes were surprisingly touching.
I'm a little surprised that it isn't more of a gay cult favorite. Some trivia: the actress who plays Salome went stone cold blind a few weeks before filming began, but Russell insisted on using her anyway.
