Review of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2012) by Mark A — 16 Aug 2012
Nearly as perfect as a romantic comedy can get, this film had me from the opening scenes. An arrogant, self-important prig, Dr Jones, played by Ewan McGregor, gets shanghaied into providing the current administration a Public Relations plum by working with the well-prepared (and well-connected) Ms Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt), who handles the investment portfolio for an ultra-rich Yemeni Sheikh, Sheikh Muhammed.
The leads were perfectly cast, while the supporting cast added just the right flavor to all that surrounded the core story. The only negative I could detect had to do with the current love interest of Ms Chetwode-Talbot, but the objection was so minor as to not matter at all.
A good story with a feel-good ending and a proper payday for the mild villainy of some of the peripheral characters.
