Review of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2012) by Leo L — 22 Sep 2012
Based upon the self-titled book, this film adaptation follows a single man's dream of accomplishing the impossible. Developing a passion for the sport of fly-fishing, Sheikh Muhammed's goal is to stock the river of his native country with salmon while supplying a reliable water supply system for his people. With the help of financial consultant Ms. Harriet Chetwood-Talbot, he enlists the aid of fishery expert Dr. Alfred Jones to carry out his mission. Alfred is skeptical and doesn't believe this will work, and attempts to refrain from the project. When Prime Minister Press Secretary Patricia Maxwell discovers the Sheikh's plan, she insists upon Alfred's expertise and participation. The project is tedious but with hopes, it becomes a self-realization for those involved.
Amazing cinematography. Directed by Lasse Hallström, screenplay written by Simon Beaufoy- great combination to work hand-in-hand on a film project as their talents reflect an extraordinary visual perception of story plots and brilliant character deflection in the remarkable performance of Dr. Alfred Jones. Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas, & Amr Waked stars. This is one worth considering.
