Review of Salaam-e-Ishq (2007) by Zoraydah L — 20 Aug 2007
I like how the director makes this attempt to classify the 6 couples. we have sohail's comic relief, anil kapoor's mid life crisis, akhsaye's playboy attitude, john's young lover role, govinda's 'opposites attract' rule, and i'm not sure where salman comes in.
the only justification I can think of for putting in sohail is to make the other male leads look sophisticated. honestly, the term missing link comes to mind when I watch him. juhi performs stellarly, the american girl (not sure what her name is) does amazingly well, I was very pleasantly surprised at that.
the john-vidya couple was exectued nice and sweet, with decent acting, so was anil-juhi. the akshaye-ayesha actually left me impressed, I didn't think she'd be able to pull it off. I like how nikhil advani interweaved the plots, and how he made it look stylish, and the various parodies were sweet, with the actors giving a "wtf?" look to the person who parodied the line.
also, the humor is worth the entire 3hrs 20 mins of it. this is definitely a newer brand of humor that is only recently appearing in bollywood, and is a welcome change.
