Review of Salaam Bombay! (1988) by Ankit C — 28 Oct 2008
Well, that was depressing! Certainly not your average singing and dancing Indian film! The story is of a young boy, left behind by a circus, who comes to Bombay with the aim of earning 500 rupees to allow him to return to his home village.
It revolves around the various ways he tries to make money, and his lifestyle and that of his companions. I thought it had some of the overtones of Midnight Cowboy. But the film dragged on, and although the charactersâ?? lot was very sad, it was still hard to feel too much sympathy somehow.
Maybe the acting wasnâ??t well done or maybe there wasnâ??t enough storyline to keep me interested, but I found myself hoping it would end soon. Not recommended.
