Review of Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) by Rachel Y — 27 Apr 2015
To me this was brilliant. There are few movies out there that can completely morph genre right before your eyes, but this was one of them. It was at once small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and at the same time big enough to hold everything around you. I spent the first hour enjoying the movie as an indie comic thrill ride, and the last half hour realizing I had just witnessed a shining, candid treatment on time, love, and the passing of both.
Here, Love is believing wholly in another person's wildest dreams as if they were your own, and them knowing somehow, incredibly, you are along for the ride. I can subscribe to that.
