Review of Safe House (2012) by Tim H — 27 Jan 2013
This is a poor film by Denzel Washington's standards. His performance is wasted potential and his capabilities aren't taken advantage of whatsoever. Ryan Reynolds is the most overrated actor of recent times in my opinion, but this isn't his worst performance.
Chris Pine would of been a better choice. The supporting cast is full of big names and familiar faces but none of them are memorable. Brendan Gleeson in particular was a disappointment. The plot lacks direction and the script is weak.
Some of the set pieces are reasonably enjoyable but the placement of them is poor and most of the time unnecessary. The action sequences have too many cuts and the shakey cam shots are annoying. The pacing is very jittery and the plot never really takes off sadly.
In places the cinematography is good but overall its very average. This film is a complete waste of 2 hours and there isn't any need to ever watch it again. No originality, no creativeness, no purpose.
