Review of Safe Haven (2013) by Layla A — 14 Oct 2013
Up until the plot twist in the last 5 minutes, the movie was 4.5 stars for me. However the plot twist is not a big detractor. The only scene that I felt where the dialogue was forced was on the dock when Katie was running away and Alex caught up to her.
Otherwise, this film was smooth sailing for me. Perfectly acted, including the child actors. It was emotionally satisfying and no gaping plot holes. The script was perfect albeit the one scene I mentioned.
And it's not sappy or awkward. The pacing was good. I never rolled my eyes or tried to fastforward. I just love it. It's right up there with The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Mamma Mia for me.
Critics be damned. Julianne Hough is beautiful as a summer blonde and Josh Duhamel is undeniable as lonely Mr. Mom. I just love it.
