Review of Safe (1993) by Kevin R — 02 Mar 2009
A suburban housewife "valley girl" in San Fernando named Carol gets sick and tries to stop it because it is isolating her from her friends and family. I don't see how this is a thriller. Is it horrifying because she gets sick from environmental chemicals? A lot of chemicals that cause her type of reactions are natural ones that can be found in plants and animals.
Or is it because she can never form close connections with the people she encounters? Whatever the case, I found the argument of this movie to be weak. Also, the acting wasn't that good and the story was boring, slow, and and highly anticlimatic.
Unless you're required to analyze it for your English class like I had to, I suggest watching a better movie that presents the same argument about toxicity from the environment and personal/social relationships.
