Review of Sadgati (1981) by Lauren H — 06 Sep 2008
The daddy of hillbilly-killer movies is still a gripping tale and a well constructed character study. Forget your "Wrong-Turns" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remakes - they rely on schlocks to get by. Deliverance on the other hand pulls you in from the off with the oddly-shaped head banjo player kid. You never get completely settled and when the pivitol "squeel like a pig" scene kicks in you don't know what to expect then on.
Visually, the film itself holds up extremely well 36 years on - the special collector's DVD clean-up transfer is one of the best I have seen.
