Review of Sadgati (1981) by Marchi M — 21 Feb 2009
A great film that unfortunately has just become the "squeal like a pig" movie to most. Deliverance's story is Man Vs. Nature, Man Vs. Man, and Man Vs. Class Society. The characters in Deliverance are so sure that they can conquer the Cahulawassee River just because they have conquered life (they're successful, wealthy, and have great family lives), but they don't realize that while in their social circles, that means something, it means nothing outside of them.
This is illustrated many times throughout the film by the characters simply not understanding the situations they are in or how to interact with the people. The characters face the reality by the end of the film and come out different people.
Great acting by all (which is amazing considering some of the roles these actors have taken since). An interesting side note, the "banjo kid" was found and used for a cameo in BIG FISH.
