Review of Sadgati (1981) by Kevin H — 05 Aug 2010
There are films you don't want to miss, and then there are ones you do, like Deliverance. Ronny Cox is likable, Ned Beatty is pittiful, Jon Voight makes me drowzy and Burt Reynolds is missing a Trans Am in this film.
This film is saturated in dead-time; nothing is going on for the majority of the film. And unlike films like "I Am Legend" or "Cast Away" nothing is really being accomplished during that quiet time.
The tension factor is raised when Ned Beatty and Jon Voight are committed to their, ehem, "famous" scene, but that's the only real emotional response the film produces for the audience. The fact that they managed to squeeze two whole hours out of this story is absurd.
The script could be written on a dinner napkin. I am glad I only spent my time watching it and no real amount of currency. The only reason it gets a star is because the banjo vs guitar scene was nicely done.
I really could have lived out the rest of my days without seeing this sleep-machine.
