Review of Sadgati (1981) by Alex M — 27 Jan 2014
More of a survival movie than what everyone else is referring to as a horror movie. It's compentantly directed, and has great performances by Burt Reynolds and John Voigt, and I particularly found the shift in character of Ed and Lewis, from beginning and the end, interesting.
After the initial attack by the mountain men, the story never really returns to scary territory at all. It's just these characters trying to cope with a "murder" in the woods and the ethics of covering it up as they try to escape the river.
I would never see this again, mainly because it's slow and purposely told in a way that it unfolds as tediously as Boorman intends to make it. The movie Boorman was setting us up for in the beginning, with the creepy inbred people in the village, and the especially memorable dueling banjos scene with a creepy looking child, is never delivered in full.
Maybe I was just hoping for more attacks and threats as the group tried to survive, which with what we're left with, turns out to be short of thrilling and exciting as how the movie first started.
