Review of Saboteur (1942) by Geonard Y — 19 Jul 2007
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
Starring Robert Cummings, Priscilla Lane, Otto Kruger, Alan Baxter.
An innocent aircraft worker gets tagged as a saboteur and becomes a fugitive out to prove his innocence. Hitchcock?s WWII-era suspense thriller has a neat layer of conspiracies and handsomely thought of characters they never seem typical. A fine group of rogue?s standard for today. If this had been starred in by bigger stars, it would have been ?out there? with Hitch?s very best, but then they would?ve lessened the impact of some great scenes. Take for instance the Ballroom scene when the two heroes dance and the enemies surround them in the perimeter almost felt too modern, like it was from the 90s! ?Saboteur? doesn?t have Hitch?s best shots nor something too memorable like the cornfield scene, but it has a tightly-knitted plot that gets unwrapped very well.
Best Scene: The Ballroom.
