Review of Sabotage (2014) by Orlando O — 01 Apr 2014
Sabotage is the typical thriller that does not focus on the writing but consisting majority of gruesome shootouts.
DEA agents John "Breacher" (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his elite team successful raided a cartel safe house. Until, they eventually get picked off one by one and the stakes being higher when no one can be trusted.
The gratuitous violence in which the movie relies on with intense shoot outs and gory death scenes. What else could you expect for a movie involving DEA elite team going up against cartels. There is more to the plot and it does overbear as it ties together in the end and a twist that is not surprising nor shocking.
It is a David Ayer film and also consists of some kind of corruption with the law enforcements like most of his films. Writers Skip Woods and David Ayer must have had fun writing horrendous dialogue, which it sounds so embarrassing to even hear the characters speak. Even though, it sounds like every character has a very low IQ and they speak to each other with dumb slang terms. The action shoot out sequences was also terrible with the bad editing and quick movement that just got boring after a while.
Sabotage did have some kind of potential with an ensemble casts like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, Max Martini, Josh Holloway and Mireille Enos. The script did not have any development to the story nor characters to even make any of them stand out. Yet again, most of the actors are talented and were the only positive thing about the movie.
Sabotage is boring if you can get through terrible dialogue, choppy action sequences and a plot that sneaks around the corner from all the bloody shootouts.
