While it did provide a horrifying look at one of the biggest atrocities conducted by mankind, it didn't really grab me or engage me enough, so it was a tad disappointing as I had wanted to understand more about this sad history.

but perhaps that itself is something that can never quite be understood, as are other insane acts. however, I really appreciated that the director did not force his opinions on the matter, but instead chose to let both the victims and torturers tell their stories.
