Review of Ryan's Daughter (1970) by Yogesh R — 17 Aug 2007
Lean's most underrated film, this features gorgeous Freddie Young cinematography shot in the most breathtaking parts of Ireland, as well as powerful acting from the likes of Leo McKern, Trevor Howard, and John Mills. The three vertexes of the love triangle (Mitchum, Miles, and Jones) are surprisingly good as well.
This is a simple story beautifully filmed and filled with wrenching emotion. It deserves to be enshrined right alongside "Lawrence," "Kwai," and "Zhivago.".
