Review of Ryan's Daughter (1970) by Anne F — 08 Jan 2011
A young girl sets her heart upon the village school teacher, marries him, but then conducts a passionate affair with a soldier. Unfortunately this us set in Ireland in 1916 and the soldier was British, which means that the repercussions were more far-reaching than normal.
The film is too long, and Christopher Jones was dreadfully wooden as the shell-shocked soldier, but the sets are marvellous, most of the cast were good and the story kept me wanting to find out 'what happens next'.
