Review of RV (2006) by Troy F — 28 Sep 2010
There should be a rule, if you can't make it funnier than National Lampoons Vacation, don't do a family vacation movie( that goes for Vaction sequels also). That being said, while this movie is not in the same league as NLV, it does have it's moments.
The film opens with Robin Williams entertaining his 5 year old and claiming no matter what they will always be friends. Fat forward some years and the kids are teenagers, everyone has their own lives and only sees each other as obstacles in their lives.
So naturaly a trip to Hawai, becomes a road trip to Colorado(sound familiar?) So far this sounds like a bad review, it isn't. Well not completely. If you are looking for originality, this is not the place to look.
It is a pleasant diversion, with some good laughs. Jeff Daniels makes the most of his role and the movie takes off whenever he is on the screen.( B - ).
