Rust and Bone is gritty, visceral and emotionally powerful. While the romance is believably portrayed and moving, it's Cotillard and Schoenaerts' terrific performances that truly transcend this slightly overlong film.
Audiard's assured direction and the film's visually stunning cinematography also provide a unique sense of lyricism throughout the film.
