Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Tom W — 06 Jul 2013
Terrific central performances and an interesting story make this a compelling watch.
Audiard and co have created a group of damaged characters that are attempting to get through life in spite of their challenges and whilst it is clear that they (or the audience) are not going to have an easy ride it is a testament to the cast and crew that they draw you and in keep you invested in the events that unfold.
Marion Cotillard in particular is brilliant up front and Schoenaerts presents a truly messed up guy. Overall, this is one of those films that is difficult to actually enjoy (given the events and subject matters etc) but it is a really strong film anchored by great casting and a good storytelling.
