Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Yoyalo P — 15 Sep 2013
A raw and non-mushy drama-romance. Steph and Ali are an unlikely couple that are brought together by tragedy. They find strength and courage in each other. I like this movie a lot. Both lead actors bring powerful performances to the table and a kind of magnetic chemistry I can't really describe.
Their relationship is great to watch. Ali is intimidating-looking but gives off a kind of warmth and concern for Steph that belies someone who is truly caring while her growing affection for him allows us to see past the "Miss Hot Stuff" demeanor of before and into her current vulnerability.
Like no onscreen couple I've seen before, these two essentially need each other in the most realistic, non-superficial way.
