I tried not to judge this movie against l'auberge espagnol - I wanted to give it a fair chance as an independent story, especially since it was called a "loose sequel." But I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I didn't have background of the characters.
Having a sense of Xavier's journey of self-discovery from l'auberge espagnol hastened my ability to access his journey through "isolation versus intimacy" in Russian Dolls.
