Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Justin B — 24 Jun 2007
In which the Hermitage plays itself. We get a pretty tour, which paradoxically enough, fails to register at all precisely as a result of the unfocused, "fluid" one-shot. There's also no real entry point for the layperson or amateur dabbler in Russian culture; as a result the thing's a piece of inscrutable and hence worthless beauty.
Rent a Tarkovsky film--any Tarkovsky film--instead.
