Sokurov's best, this is the first cinema masterpiece of the 21st century. A deep metaphor about existence, beauty and the history of Russia prior to 1917. Magnificently filmed in the Hermitage. A must for every russophile.
But if you don't know anything about Russian history, don't even try it - you"ll be bored.
