Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Danielle S — 07 Dec 2007
Perfect tone, beautiful on so many levels, and terrifically engaging from an intellectual perspective. those who get the details (e.g. the specific room chosen by the director to show russia's last royals, the paintings on which the camera rests, the identity of the narrator, the music playing during the ball, pushkin and his wife and their quarrels, catherine the great polyglot, etc) will feel very satisfied to have done their history homework.
