Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Andrew U — 18 May 2010
This was a remarkable movie. It is shot in one take. In first person, so we are basically on tour. I have heard of films being lavish before, but this is beautiful. also even though it was shot in first person there was no shakey cam.
However, for all of the strengths, it also watches like an episode of "You Were There" one that lasts just a little bit too long. Not a great feeling for a movie that I s barely over an hour and thirty minutes.
Given a little break though, it is quite an interesting expirement of a movie that involves you in its time period.
