Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Jonathan B — 26 Feb 2011
As emotionally stimulating as it is technically impressive, Russian Ark is performance art caught on video. It's a truly original and unique cinematic experience that takes you on a magical journey that achieves the seemingly impossible: take the viewer on a captivating Russian history museum tour.
No offense Russia, I find almost all history museum tours boring. But I actually enjoyed this film and felt like I was dreaming alongside the mysterious "Russian" behind the camera and the mystery and wonder behind and in front of him.
Russian Ark is a triumphant accomplishment. Not to mention the ridiculously, jaw-droppingly difficult feat that this film achieved.
