After rewatching Rushmore on its glorious Criterion Blu-ray I have no shame in admitting I find no major faults with it and consider it brilliant filmmaking at its best. Rushmore launched the career of Wes Anderson, revived Bill Murray's and was the debut of Jason Schwartzman, so there's plenty of win to go around.

Anderson has never been better since and possibly never will, although Fantastic Mr. Fox was pretty close, and his usage of cinematography, music and style all blend together like that of a seasoned master.

Throw in the quotable and creative script and the dead-on cast of characters and Rushmore is a distinct experience wholly its own that will continue to stand the test of time.

This review of Rushmore (1998) was written by on 27 Dec 2011.

Rushmore has generally received very positive reviews.
