"I saved Latin. What did you ever do?".
Max Fischer is one of the most fully realized characters in film history. A renaissance man so far ahead of his time that he has the foresight to not succeed at absolutely anything he tries. So mature in his endeavors, he leaves his most childish moments lashing out against his romantic failures.
The movie is filled with the simplest of situations where the emotions run way higher than expected. The stakes are given so much comical weight. If its not Jason Schwartzman's deadpan crazy power hungry jack-ass, it's the perfectly timed Bill Murray who jumped right on the crazy train and reverted to the perfect boy-ish contestant anti-hero to Max's hero.
Wes and Owen wrote an imaginiative script and cast the perfect players. If it wasn't for all of that pretentious music...
