One of the great independent films with layers of subtlety beyond the obvious, very funny comedic exploits of one Max Fischer (Schwartzman) and his vainglorious attempts to win the object of his major crush, an older woman and elementary schoolteacher (Olivia Williams).
SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT--For example, would most movies develop the love/hate relationship he has with his schoolmaster (Brian Cox) or risk to show his often shabby treatment of his kind father (Seymour Cassel), a humble barber? Nope.
