Review of Rushmore (1998) by John P — 03 Jun 2012
Have to say that I just plain adore this film....
Schwartzman is on top form here and Max Fischer is such a great character for him. His interplay with Bill Murray and Olivia Williams is just wonderful to watch. The feel and tone of this film just speak to me and I love the arch dialogue that spills from these characters. I totally get why Anderson's flicks divide audiences and all I can say is that for me I respond to his story telling, characters and themes. For me there is so much heart in this story and good natured humour, it just gets me every time.
The other thing that I love about this film is the use of music which is just wonderfully effective. For me Anderson can do very little wrong and the fact that he managed to get Bill Murray to keep returning to the screen over the years has to be applauded....
