Review of Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage (2010) by Ryan O — 26 Jun 2010
If there was ever a Music documentary that told a band's story over the last four decades, recounting the band's forming, their iconic albums, the duds too and its influence on music today that was fascinating, rocking and entertain, this film is it!
I cant remember the last time I saw a documentary on a classic band that was as informative and entertaining as this was. A truly remarkable piece film that should be seen by all Rush fans. Newbies and non-fans I believe will find this equally as entertaining and might just make a fan out of them too.
I loved this movie! It probably doesn't hurt that I'm going to see them on July 5 - so I may be a bit bias. Nonetheless, this documentary sets out to show the influence that Rush has had on numerous bands that followed them. They were progressive, sometimes too progressive to be accepted by the masses, but somehow, through it all, legions of fans have stuck by the band to make them one of the top trios in the world.
Check it out if you're a Rush fan...its well worth it. For the curious, I ditto the previous statement. One of the best documentary's i've seen in a long long time.

***Looking for a Double-Feature night?
Pair this one with Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz -- which chronicles the historic farewell concert of the Band, the pioneering country-tinged rock band formed in 1960. Another stellar documentary on a classic band - one you may not have heard of - but are familiar with their music.
