Review of Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage (2010) by Craig M — 26 Aug 2010
Nicely made doc about Rush that might even interest some non-rush fans if they can be bothered to see it. It stands up very well against other music documentaries I've seen. Comes across a bit uncritical and sugar-coated, unless Geddy, Alex and Neil are really as level-headed and pleasant as they appear in the film.
The film does a good job of appraising the band's music, which it points out is both very complex, and yet popular and inspirational. It certainly had me going back to their albums. Second good point is that it successfully makes a case for Rush to get, at last, the critical and media attention and acclaim that has always eluded them, despite being lucrative unit-shifters with a massive fan base.
